Dave - Takes grumpy to a new level
The oldest and fattest member of the troupe, Dave started playing bass in the mid 70’s when he realised everybody else was a better guitarist. Early influences from Mozart and Beethoven courtesy of his classical loving parents, Dave quickly attained a level of competence with his technique and has sadly never got any better. Saddled with the handicap of exceptionally small hands (feet, and nose, ears and all other extremities) he should never have picked up the bass, and was too stupid to get a Jazz. Dave has been murdering his original Fender Precision Bass since he got it new in the late 70’s plucking along to the tunes of The Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd and other long forgotten R & B favourites
Nathan - Laid back and grumpy
I started playing guitar at 16, joined my first band at 17, got moved to bass, played in covers and original bands from 1984 to 1999, stopped gigging till I met Chris - both talked about getting a fun band together, so we did. Tried a couple of bass players, nothing happened, finally found Dave and everything clicked into place.
Im stuck in the late 70's, early 80's as far as music goes, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Pistols, Jam. As far as ambition goes, to keep enjoying it and meet loads of different people.
Oh yes, I'm lazy as well!
Chris - The grumpy organiser
Chris began to play the drums at the age of eleven after seeing an Eric Delaney drum clinic with his drum mad uncle. Coming from a musical family Chris took lessons first from his uncle, then part time at Leeds College of Music followed by professional tuition from the late Geoff Myers. Having played many styles of music in many different bands over the years Chris now enjoys being the driving force and facial expressionist in the Grumpy Old Men. Musical influences over the decades include Steve Gadd, Weather Report, UFO, Van Halen, Guns and Roses, Green Day, Stevie Wonder, Rush, The Jam, The Who and many more.
